This week marks a transition where the wildflowers in the hills are at their peak and the waterfront terraces provide the perfect vantage point for the afternoon sun. It is a time for long walks along the marina and quiet mornings in the ancient streets of Ephesus before the summer heat settles in.

It is also a week of remarkable administrative efficiency in our corner of the world. We are all currently marveling at the surgical precision of the recent legal proceedings involving our Mayor, Ömer Günel. It is truly heartening to see our democratic institutions working with such vigor, especially as he joins the illustrious ranks of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in what many are calling a masterclass in judicial timing. One can only admire the European Union for its steadfast commitment to silence on these matters, proving once again that selective concern is the highest form of international diplomacy. While the political landscape shifts with the predictability of a coastal tide, the hospitality of our local shopkeepers and the quality of our seafood remain, thankfully, beyond the reach of such creative governance.

Additionally, the Dilek Peninsula National Park is currently seeing high visitor numbers for its spring hiking trails, which are currently at their most lush.

Turkey Travel Update: The Turkish Lira continues to see gradual depreciation, with the exchange rate currently sitting near 45.34 TRY to 1 USD and approximately 49.50 TRY to 1 EUR. Visitors will find that their foreign currency goes quite far, though it is wise to keep an eye on menu prices in high-traffic areas which may adjust frequently. There are no major flight disruptions reported at Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport this week.

Port & Cruise News: Ege Port is entering its busiest spring window with several multi-ship days scheduled. For those with only a few hours in port, the Grand Bazaar and Pigeon Island remain the most accessible walkable options. We recommend booking private transport for Ephesus trips this week to avoid the large coach crowds arriving from the mega-ships. Where to Eat This Week

This week we are highlighting Aegean Seafood, the culinary backbone of our coastal town. May is an excellent month for fresh sea bass and local mezes.

[Mezgit Restaurant] - Turkmen Neighborhood (opposite Setur Marina). Order the grilled octopus or the sea bass cooked in salt: the fish is sourced daily from local boats and the view of the marina is unbeatable.
[Kazım Usta] - Harbor area (near the port). This is the quintessential local favorite where the meze tray is a work of art and the service has remained consistently professional for decades.
[Bottarga] - Ataturk Boulevard. For a more refined take on Aegean flavors, try the pasta with bottarga or the blue crab: Chef Cengiz Taner brings a fine-dining edge to traditional seafood in a sophisticated atmosphere.

Day Plan 1: Ancient Wonders & Village Life

Start your morning early at the Ephesus Ruins to beat the cruise crowds and enjoy the spring flowers among the stones.
Take a short drive up to the village of Sirince for a late lunch of "gozleme" and a tasting of the local fruit wines.
Head back to Kusadasi for a sunset walk along the Pigeon Island causeway.

Day Plan 2: Nature & Coastal Escape

Spend the day at the Dilek Peninsula National Park. The first and second bays are perfect for a quiet swim in the crystal-clear Aegean.
Hike the Canyon Trail in the morning while the temperature is mild and look for the wild horses that frequent the area.
